The pouffe versus bean bag debate has been around since the history of party furniture rental, with party and event organizers unsure whether one or the other is right for their setting. Deciding between these party seating options is easy enough if you know what kind of interactions you want your guests to have or the kind of look you are trying to achieve with the general styling of the event space. However, if you are thinking about bean bags and pouffes for your event, you are most likely gearing up for a relaxed, laid back, and quite informal event—for which almost any type of seating can work, as long as you create a good flow of space. Pouffes and bean bags are extremely versatile pieces of furniture that can go with virtually any set-up. They are great for creating focal areas within the event space as well as for scattering around the venue, so as to provide guests with a relaxing place to sit back and perhaps mingle with other event attendees.
A pouffe is often confused with yet another popular party furniture rental item—the ottoman. However, there are subtle differences between these seating types. Pouffes, for instance, are much lower to the floor. They don’t have a framework, nor do they have legs for support. They are predominantly made out of stuffing and textile covering, whereas ottomans usually feature an interior frame, which gives the piece shape. Some ottomans may likewise feature legs, which raise the piece off the floor. A bean bag, on the other hand, is exactly as the name suggests. They are quite literally bags filled with “beans” or more technically, loose polystyrene or expanded polystyrene (EPS), which gives the bean bag a comfortable “give” when sat on. Unlike pouffes and ottomans, beanbags have little to no structure, although some might have strategically placed stitches to give the bean bag more of a shape. Nevertheless, if you have a party to plan, these floor seating options are functional and colorful additions to your space.
